A reserve-coverage calculation is only interpretable when the asset and liability definitions are aligned. The September USDC examination report, dated October 26, provides an exact historical snapshot suitable for that exercise. It is not a live October 29 balance.

The report’s circulation measure makes specified deductions from approved-blockchain supply, including tokens allowed but not issued, access-denied tokens and pending Gateway burns. Replacing it with a differently defined explorer total would change the question being answered.

Reproduce the ratio

Using one dollar per reported circulating USDC for the denominator, the coverage ratio is 73,956,687,701 / 73,878,861,314 = approximately 100.1053%. The difference is $77,826,387, or about $77.83 million. That difference is not a distribution available to token holders and does not measure a guaranteed capacity to withstand every stress scenario.

Between the report’s September 4 and September 30 observations, reported circulation fell by 566,112,004 USDC, approximately 0.7604%. These are two specified dates, not a full calendar-month issuance-and-redemption ledger.

Separate solvency evidence from access

The editorial distinction is between the value of assets at report dates and the practical path by which a particular holder can obtain dollars. A ratio above 100% cannot alone answer questions about timing, intermediary access, transaction restrictions or the price available on a secondary market.

Likewise, the calculation does not establish a profitable stablecoin trade. A premium or discount would need a separate, timestamped market observation and an achievable redemption route, neither of which is measured here.

A disciplined monitoring record

Preserve the report date, observation dates, exact circulation criteria and source file when comparing later reports. A new denominator definition can make a time series look different without representing a comparable economic change. Report any definition break before presenting a trend.
